Principles

Mesoporous nanoparticle is a new micron-sized (20~500㎚) material that has 2~50㎚ sized pores.
As a component of sand or glass, Silica (Silicon Dioxide/SiO₂) is the most prevalent element in the Earth’s crust and is utilized in various industrial fields. Due to its mesoporous and nano sized characteristics, having a rapid response, Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticle (MSN) is currently being used in medical fields, cosmetics, and highly specialized fields. It is highly valued as it is currently being sold in the United States.

According to recent news, in the medical field, it is used to treat Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
In order to treat brain diseases, the medical treatment has to penetrate through the brain. However, common medical treatment cannot penetrate the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB). But the MSN has an impressive ability to penetrate the BBB. Human bodies also show lower rejection rates towards Silica.

Also, due to its mesoporous characteristics, doctors could insert medical cures into the nanoparticle.
So we believe that due to the ability of mass production, MSN will have a great impact in the medical industry as it will play a great role in drug delivery systems.

And Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles could be utilized not only in bio industry but also in cosmetics, specialized industry, fuel cell, rechargeable batteries, water purification, sterilization, and agriculture.

And currently we have developed a technology of inserting Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Gold (Au), Silver (Ag), Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), Copper (Cu), Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) into Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles to create for the various catalysts.

And also due to its surface molecule functionalization, Mesoporous Silica Materials will be used in the surface treatment industries such as antifouling paint and super-hydrophobic film.

In addition, Mesoporous Silica Materials are anticipated to be actively utilized in various industries such as defense industry, membrane, plastic, specialized garments, noise shelter, insulation, and special cosmetics due to its superior dispersibility.

In particular, SMBTM-MSN has the BET Surface Area more than >1,000 m² per 1 gram.
This is three times the size of a basketball playing ground, and the inner pore diameter (BJH) is around 3.4 nm in size, furthermore, BJH Pore Volume is about >1.0cm³ per 1 gram which makes it very suitable to accommodate molecules.

Therefore, the volume of the internal pores also has a feature that can store a large amount of molecules inside the >1.0cm³ per gram. The particle size of MSN can also be produced in a variety of 20 ~ 500nm.

The SMBTM-Numbers series has a structure that is encapsulated metal nanospheres in the inner of mesoporous nanospheres to prevent leakage of metal nanospheres, making complex with MSN.

Therefore, it has a feature of almost no loss of main functions such as surface area.

These characteristics and structures of SMBTM-MSN and SMBTM-Numbers are expected to play a pioneering role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution by revolutionizing the catalysts and new materials industries as well as the bio industry.

We stress that there is no company that mass-produces Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles (MSNs) in a short period of time with small-scale facilities at a reasonable cost, instead of the conventional high-pressure, high-temperature and physical manufacturing methods, since the material MCM-41 was developed by Mobil in the United States in 1991.
